Peer Specialist

The Downtown IMPACT program provides Assertive Community Treatment for approximately 250 homeless, chronically mentally ill clients.  The intensive, community based services includes case management, psychiatric services, medication management, psychosocial rehabilitation, substance abuse treatment, vocational services, permanent and supportive housing, crisis intervention, and payee services.

General Description

The Peer Specialist participates as part of the interdisciplinary team. She/he will provide an opportunity for clients to work with their peers in helping to address their individual recovery processes. The Peer Specialist is expected to demonstrate his/her abilities, work ethic, and life skills with peers. Job duties include teaching clients life skills, such as shopping, teaching budgeting skills, assisting with laundry, helping with public transportation education, and other activities of daily living. This position may require you to provide general office support including filing, sorting and other office projects as assigned. The position does require basic computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook software along with basic knowledge of Internet searches.

Qualifications/Skills Requirements

High school diploma or GED plus 1 year experience providing related services to disabled population or six years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid State of California driver's license in good standing and auto insurance coverage within 10 days of employment is required and must be maintained during course of employment.
