Educational Specialist

Casa del Sol Clubhouse follows a self-help rehabilitation model that promotes member empowerment through education, training, involvement, and support. Committed to serving the mental health needs of its membership, Casa stresses member choice, input, self-determination, and personal growth. We are dedicated to assisting our members in recognizing their potential and developing their strengths, which will help them live a healthier, more productive, and independent life with dignity, confidence and self-respect. We encourage our membership to focus upon their strengths and abilities and to take responsibility for their own lives, all the while utilizing the various support systems available to them at Casa del Sol Clubhouse.

At Casa del Sol, we encourage employment, education, volunteering, and social support to all those who become members. There are three major components to our program: 

  • Self Help
  • Social Rehabilitation
  • Pre-Vocational Training

General Descriptions

Educational Specialist teaches classes on independent living skills, coping skills from peers, recovery classes, food handlers, basic English/Spanish, etc.  Educational Specialist assists members in accessing and using community resources, assists members in developing social activities both within the clubhouse and in the community by conducting social skills classes such as WRAP, social etiquette, independent living, social interaction, money management and coping skills, etc. for the Casa Del Sol Clubhouse members. Ensures completion and documentation of attendance for coping skills and informative skills classes daily, other duties assigned by Program Director and/or Program Facilitator.

Interacts appropriately with others whether in a group with members or with the public and maintains professional and courteous relationships.  Bilingual preferred.  

Qualifications/Skills Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalency and/or 2 years experience with mental health services. Strongly prefer completed Peer Employment Training prior to hire and required within 90 days of hire.  Bi-Lingual/Spanish required. Intermediate computer skills in Word and Excel preferred. Mental health consumers and/or family members are encouraged to apply.
